Eligibility criteria

The following criteria will apply to grant applications:

Biomass Boilers

  • The boiler must carry the CE mark.
  • Boiler efficiency must be at a minimum:

     ≥72.0% +7log(kW)% for boilers up to 300 kW;

     ≥ 89% for boilers greater than 300 kW.

  • Fuel to be used in the boiler must be miscanthus.
  • Boiler manufacturer’s warranty must cover miscanthus as a fuel.
  • Boiler feed system must be automatic.
  • Flue system must include sampling ports for flue gas emissions monitoring.

Additional criteria

  • A feasibility study / design appraisal is required to be carried out prior to a grant application.
  • The appropriateness of the system size for the intended service must be confirmed through sign off on the application by the individual / organisation which made the determination.
  • Installation of the system by an appropriately qualified individual / organisation must be confirmed through sign off of the application.
  • The client must agree to site visits by SEAI or its designated agent for the purposes of technical or verification inspection, and to carry out flue gas emissions monitoring.
  • The client must agree that SEAI may develop a case study for dissemination (protecting as appropriate all confidential or commercially sensitive information / data).
  • The applicant must be prepared to allow access to the site for the purposes of demonstrating an operating miscanthus boiler subject to reasonable frequency and notification.
  • The application form must be accompanied by a current Tax Clearance Certificate for the applicant organisation.
