The new system for submitting energy data and tracking progress to 2020 is currently under development. Public bodies that have established a Partnership Programme with SEAI will be required to submit energy data for 2010 and preceding years, in September-October 2011. All public bodies will be required to submit data in 2012.
Note: for metered electricity and gas consumption, if you have already submitted your MPRNs and GPRNs (see below) to SEAI, then your consumption will be automatically accessed by SEAI direct from the regulated meter operators. All other fuel consumption data, i.e. fossil and renewable fuels, should be submitted by your organisation directly to SEAI. SEAI will contact public bodies directly to initiate this process – in accordance with the timescales above.

SEAI has greatly reduced the reporting burden on public sector bodies, by automating the submission of annual electricity and natural gas consumption. This has been achieved through the collation of all public sector Meter Point Reference Numbers (MPRNs) and Gas Point Registration Numbers (GPRNs). MPRNs and GPRNs are unique reference numbers assigned to all electricity and natural gas connections (meters) respectively. This means that annual electricity and natural gas consumption can be directly reported to SEAI by the energy supplier, thus eliminating the need for public bodies to directly submit their electricity and natural gas consumption.
In August 2010, your organisation should have received a letter, detailing the requirements for submitting MPRN and GPRN information. See a sample copy of this letter. If your organisation has not already done so, you should submit your MPRNs and GPRNs to SEAI now, by selecting one of the following options (both involve submitting exactly the same data):
A. Smaller organisations only (with a max. of 5 MPRNs & 5 GPRNs): use the web submission form.
or
B. All organisations: download this simple spreadsheet template, fill in your MPRN and GPRN details and then email it to publicsector@seai.ie
