A wide range of high use energy products are covered by the EU Ecodesign, Energy Labelling and Tyre Labelling Regulation. These include many household appliances, building service products, and industrial products. All products covered use significant amounts of energy in an EU context.
As well as informing market operators about their obligations and setting minimum standards, the regulations give consumers important energy information through labelling.
We have been given functional responsibility for market surveillance of these regulations in Ireland by the Department for Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE). This includes:
Later in 2019, we are expected to become the Market Surveillance Authority (MSA) overseeing market surveillance of these regulations. This will give us additional powers of enforcement.
